Moringa Adaptation Trial Gardens, Called Miracle Plant, Were Established In Giresun

Within the scope of Giresun Province Rural Income Resources Diversification Project (GIRKAP), carried out by our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and financed by the Eastern Black Sea Project Regional Development Administration; In order to evaluate whether the Moringa oliefera plant, which is called the miracle plant in the world, adapts to the climate and soil conditions of our region, a garden was established on a total of 3 decares of land in 5 districts.

Moringa oleifera, also known as the drum tree, is a highly valuable and versatile plant belonging to the Moringaceae family. It is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to India and widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions throughout Asia, Africa, and South America.

Although its value has only recently been discovered by modern science, the Moringa plant has been providing numerous benefits to humans since ancient times. Romans, Egyptians, and Greeks valued this herb for its medicinal effects on various ailments.

Nutritional Value of Moringa Plant

Moringa leaves and berries are the main nutritional powerhouse and provide significant amounts of protein, vitamins and minerals. It is a rich source of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. It also contains significant amounts of vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, B3, B-6, folate and vitamin C. Moringa plant contains very rich minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and zinc. It contains very low amount of oil.

  • 12 times more vitamin C than oranges

If the data to be obtained as a result of these studies initiated in our Giresun province are appropriate; Moringa, which has a wide range of products from human nutrition to cosmetics, from animal nutrition to biofuel production, from its use as a snack to oil production and its use in water disinfection, aims to diversify the income sources of our farmers and contribute to the regional economy by promoting it to our farmers .
